NSW 5-Inch Water-Brake Dynamometer

Compact High-Speed Single and Dual-Rotor Absorber

The NSW 5-inch water brake is designed for motorcycle, kart, snowmobile, chainsaw and small-engine dynamometer applications.

It combines compact size with significantly greater absorption capability than the 3-inch platform.

Single-Rotor Configuration

The NSW 5-inch single-rotor brake is rated approximately:

70–75 HP

Approximately 50 lb-ft

Up to approximately 20,000 RPM

For a 75 HP application, the basic minimum water requirement works out to approximately:

3.75 GPM

NSW recommends additional reserve flow rather than designing the system exactly at the theoretical minimum.

Dual-Rotor Configuration

The NSW 5-inch dual-rotor design approximately doubles the hydraulic working area.

Target capability is approximately:

150+ HP

Approximately 100 lb-ft

For applications approaching 150–160 HP, NSW recommends at least approximately:

8 GPM at 15 PSI or higher

as a practical minimum reference.

RPM Sensor

The RPM sensor port uses an M12 × 1.0 thread.

Installation:

Screw the sensor inward until it contacts the rotor pickup surface, then back the sensor out approximately one complete turn.

Because the thread pitch is 1 mm, one complete turn creates approximately a 1 mm sensor gap.

Lubrication

NSW recommends lubrication before demanding operation and after the session.

For repeated high-RPM pulls, bearing lubrication should be treated as a critical maintenance item.
